An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities once more.
She said the defendant then played the "candy game" in a space of five children.
